The King of Glory

By Willard F. Jabusch (1965). Latin parody by Dylan Schrader.

The King of glory comes, the nation rejoices.
Open the gates before him, lift up your voices.
Venit rex gloriae: gens eius laetatur.
Portae aperiantur, vox audiatur!
Who is the King of glory; How shall we call him?
He is Emmanuel, the promised of ages.
Quis est rex gloriae, et quisnam vocatur?
Ille Emmanuel, qui desideratur.
In all of Galilee, in city or village,
He goes among his people, curing their illness.
Tota in Galilaea, urbe vicoque,
Aegros sanando suos pertransit ipse.
Sing then of David's Son, our Savior and Brother;
In all of Galilee was never another.
Qui David Filius, salvator et frater,
Tota in Galilaea haud fuit alter.
He gave his life for us, the pledge of salvation;
he took upon himself the sin of the nation.
Animam posuit in pignus salutis,
Sed et portavit ipse scelera gentis.
He conquered sin and death; he truly has risen.
And he will share with us his heavenly vision.
Resuscitatus victor mortis, peccati,
Per quem speramus ut fiamus beati.
